With the growing number of EVs on the road, especially Teslas, owners are starting to realize how these new designs and stylings are affecting their vehicle's paintwork. Without the need for front end cooling and open grill and vent designs, a lot of EVs have solid front end bumpers. They are also lower to the ground to help with aerodynamics. Why does all this matter? Well, that is the PERFECT scenario for accumulating rock chips and road debris all over the front end of your vehicle!
In addition to the front end designs, Tesla's paint has been known to chip and damage very easily. This was especially common in the earlier models, and thankfully has improved on recent production years, but the paint is still very thin and doesn't offer much protection. In fact, I have seen many Teslas that accumulate rock chips just within the first few hundred miles! And plus, lets admit it, with the insane acceleration in a lot of these vehicles you like to drive them fast and stir up some road debris 😅
The most common areas on Teslas to accumulate rock chips are:
- Front Bumper
- Hood (these are angled and sloped more towards the road than your average vehicle!)
- Fenders
- Headlights
- Rocker Panels
- Lower parts of the doors
Check out the pictures below showing how easily these panels collect rock chips.
We have specific packages to cover these areas and more with paint protection film for any vehicle!
Another common area that gets damaged on Tesla paint is right around the door handles. Given the unique design of the handles, the area right above them can easily get scratched up. These scratches are usually light enough that you can polish them out through the process of paint correction, but that is only a temporary fix as they will get scratched up again in no time! Paint Protection Film (PPF) is the only way to permanently protect this area from future damage.
At High-Def Detailing we use Stek DYNOshield PPF which is an optically clear, 8 mil thick, self-healing and hydrophobic film. This means that any light scratches that may occur on the film will disappear with some light heat. The ceramic-infused top coat means that your film stays hydrophobic for years allowing it to repel dirt and water with ease.
New Paragraph
